John Dewey Academy of Learning utilizes the Gold Standard Project Based Learning (PBL) design elements when completing in-depth, rigorous projects. The use of Gold Standard Project Based Learning (PBL) ensures that projects are designed and implemented in a way that increases student learning and engagement. Gold Standard PBL emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication in which learners apply their knowledge of content learning targets to solve problems and create high quality projects. The project incorporates learner voice and choice making it more meaningful for learners to take ownership of the project. The process of Gold Standard PBL helps learners actively engage in sustained inquiry, pose questions, find resources, and apply information over an extended period. Learners and advisors reflect on the learning process and outcomes, and learners create public products which are presented at event nights throughout the year. Learners receive and apply feedback to improve their work, enhance their communication skills and help them to develop confidence in their work and themselves.
