JDAL Class of 2020

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!

Graduations are important celebrations to mark the milestone of completing high school in the lives of students. During this unprecedented time, the District discussed with administrators, staff, and members of the Class of 2020 the best ways to honor our seniors. While everyone’s preference would be to have an in-person celebration, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ guidance, “Any graduation event held at this time should be virtual or non-contact, and should not physically convene groups of people together.”

We understand this is disappointing, and we are committed to honoring the John Dewey Academy of Learning Class of 2020 in the following ways:

Virtual Graduation Ceremony
The graduation ceremony for John Dewey Academy of Learning will be available on YouTube. The District continues to keep open the possibility for schools to hold in-person graduation celebrations to honor the Class of 2020 in late summer, should circumstances allow.

Green Bay Bridge Lighting (Ray Nitschke bridge and the Walnut Street bridge)
The Green Bay bridges will be lit on June 10 (rescheduled from June 6) to honor JDAL graduates. The bridges will be lit at dusk, and stay lit until dawn of the next morning. In addition, Schreiber Foods will light its North Tower (facing Main Street) in school colors on the same night.

Senior Strong Yard Signs
Yard signs were delivered to homes of our seniors on May 15 (photos below).

Photos of Decorated Graduation Caps
Last year seniors had the opportunity to decorate their graduation caps. We want to ensure this new tradition continues. Photos of decorated graduation caps will be shared in the virtual graduation ceremonies as well as on social media. Seniors are requested to submit photos of their decorated graduation caps to communications@gbaps.org (include first and last name and school) no later than Friday, May 22. Photos will be included below.
