Work Permits

JDAL is no longer issuing Student Work Permits.

Work Permits Update:

As of June 2023, guardians/households must apply for a work permit online.  Any child aged 14 or 15 needs a work permit to begin work in Wisconsin.

The first step is for the child to apply and have a job offer, then you fill out online documents for a work permit.  Their website is linked below.

https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/er/laborstandards/workpermit/

Documents needed are as follows:

1. The student's birth certificate, and/or Social Security card.

2. The employer drafts an intent to hire/job offer letter.

3. The parent/guardian needs to write a note approving job offer to student.

4. $10 fee (most employers will reimburse applicant)

If a parent/guardian has any additional questions, the DWD can be reached at (608) 266-6860.
